About

Rebecca Gilling is a sculptor and surface artist working in lime, clay and earth. She makes permanent relief work for significant buildings and places, standalone panels for private collectors, and large-scale land art. She works nomadically across the UK and internationally, leaving work behind her wherever she goes.

Her practice sits at the intersection of classical technique and living material. Trained in modelmaking at Arts University Bournemouth, she refined her craft through the Prince's Foundation Building Craft Programme, an apprenticeship in traditional Japanese plastering, studies in figurative sculpture at the Florence Academy of Art, and specialist training in Moroccan and Italian artisanal plaster finishes. She has collaborated with Philip Gaches, Hayles & Howe, Medicine Festival and Wasing Estate.

She works primarily with raw earth, site-dug clay and lime; materials chosen for their low embodied carbon, their breathability, and their deep connection to place. Every commission begins with the genius loci of a site: what the land holds, what the building remembers, what the space needs.

In September 2026 she takes up a place at the Athens Sculpture Atelier to study classical figurative sculpture on a six-month intensive programme - one of a small number of rigorous ateliers working at this level in Europe.

Rebecca is available for private commissions, architectural collaborations, and specialist projects.
