Introduction to Pargetting (1 day)

A full day of Hands-On Learning in the Beautiful Somerset Countryside
Pargetting is the art of decorative relief work, predominantly in lime plaster (although some of the oldest existing examples are clay), a traditional craft found on some of the beautiful historic buildings in England. This one day hands-on workshop is focused on the practical side: learning to work the material and realising your chosen design on your board whilst developing your technical sculpting skills.
You'll use a bagged premix lime plaster and spend the day working on one board, leaving with a finished piece to take home. A simple lunch is included, along with tea, buscuits & cake, so just wear old clothes and bring an idea of what you'd like to sculpt, or choose from my printed examples.
To continue learning at home, you'll receive a PDF handout covering a variety of mix recipes that you can make from raw materials, and how to approach pargetting on different surfaces and substrates.

A little about who will be guiding you through this experience...
Becky Gilling (England)
Becky is a craftswoman and artist dedicated to celebrating the harmony between nature and creativity. Her passion for working with natural materials shines through her sculptural and decorative plasterwork, where she weaves clay and lime into beautiful, soulful expressions. Her field of work ranges from creating artisanal wall finishes in homes and conserving historic buildings to producing pargetting and giant sculptures. She is also a certified yoga instructor and loves river swimming, hiking in mountains and salsa dancing. Becky is an advocate for 'if you can draw, you can sculpt' and for this reason is very exited to incorporate observational drawing into this workshop.
